Réasúnaíocht an mhodúil ná doras isteach go domhan na léitheoireachta sa Ghaeilge a thabhairt do mhic léinn agus a gcuid léargais ar staid na scríbhneoireachta agus na foilsitheoireachta do chineálacha éagsúla léitheoirí a fhorbairt. Táthar ag súil leis go mbeidh deiseanna fairsinge ag na mic leinn chun cur lena scileanna teanga féin trí iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar réimse de théacsanna scríofa. Bunaidhm eile ná na mic léinn a mhealladh chun léitheoireachta mar chaitheamh aimsire iad féin agus an nós sin a bhuanú. [Translation for internal use only] The rationale behind this module is to open up the world of Irish language reading to the student and to give them an insight into contemporary Irish language writing and publishing and content which targets readers of various types. The students will have ample opportunities to develop their own linguistic skills by studying a range of written texts. Another general aim is to establish student reading habits (reading for leisure) and to look at ways of maintaining these in the long term.

Agus an modúl seo críochnaithe go rathúil ag an mac léinn, beidh sé/sí in ann: grinnscrúdú a dhéanamh ar roinnt saothar agus anailís chriticiúil a dhéanamh ar theicnicí; ar struchtúr; ar fhís an scríbhneora agus ar thábhacht an tsaothair; réasúnaíocht agus éifeachtaí scéimeanna tacaíochta do chineálacha éagsúla scríbhneoirí agus pobail léitheoireachta sa Ghaeilge a mheas; léirmheastóireacht chriticiúil a dhéanamh ar ábhar léitheoireachta agus tuairimí a argóint agus a chosaint i bhfóraim phlé éagsúla; [Translation for internal use only] On the successful completion of this module, the student will be able to: closely examine literary excerpts giving a critical appraisal of technique, structure, the vision of the artist & the significance of the work; evaluate the rationale and effectiveness of support schemes for various genres of writing in Irish and reader target groups; and critically review reading materials and argue and defend opinions in a variety of discussion forums.

Cuirfear béim ar chúrsaí a phlé ó bhéal mar aon le scileanna scríbhneoireachta a chur chun cinn. Cothófar scileanna inistrithe agus cineálacha. Cruthófar go leor deiseanna don mhac léinn tascanna praiticiúla a bhaineann leis an litríocht a chleachtadh agus a chur i gcrích, mar shampla, foirm iarratais a chomhlíonadh; páirt a ghlacadh i bhféile litríochta; ailt, tuairiscí, scripteanna, blaganna 7rl a scríobh. Cuirfear aiseolas pearsanta, grúpa agus piara ar fáil chun cabhrú leo snas a chur ar na scileanna seo. Mar chlub léitheoireachta/leabhar a eagrófar cuid de cheardlanna an mhodúil. Déanfar cleachtadh ar theanga na hanailíse a úsáid iontu sin. Leagfar an bhéim ar an tiomántas gairmiúil chun a bheith ag cur le scileanna léirmheastóireachta, léitheoireachta agus cruinneas teanga. Dlúthchuid de thaithí foghlama an mhodúil ná tarraingt ar thaithí ar fhéilte litríochta sa phobal agus féile léitheoireachta ranga a eagrú. Pléifear le daoine atá ag saothrú sa ghort le linn an turais Ghaeltachta, ar líne, agus ag na haoichainteanna ar an gcampas. [Translation for internal purposes only] This module will be taught through the communicative approach. There will an emphasis on reading skills, intensive reading skills, for example. Students will be presented with a wide variety of texts in different forms. Discussion will take place on how to analyse texts thematically, critically and comparatively. There will be an emphasis on discussing items orally as well as developing writing skills. Generic and transferable skills will be nurtured. The approach will be informed by recent interest, in applied literary studies, in the pedagogical, critical, activist and therapeutic applications of literature. Opportunities will be created for the student to practice practical tasks relating to literature, for example, filling out an application form, taking part in a literary festival and writing articles, reports, scripts, blogs etc. Individual, group and peer feedback will be provided early in the module in order to help students map out a plan to progress skills. Some tutorials will be presented using a book club format, giving students the opportunity to practice analytical language and skills. An emphasis will be placed on the development of reviewing, reading and writing skills for professional practice. A focal point of the students' learning experience on this module will be organising a class reading festival for the Irish language reading community. Students will have opportunities to interact with contemporary Irish writers in the Gaeltacht, online, and at the guest talks organised on campus.
